It is the eighth known planet of the solar system. Neptune is named after the Roman god of the sea. In Greek mythology, it is associated with Poseidon, one of the three great masculine gods. According to the legend, after the defeat of the titans, the three big male brother gods Jupiter (Zeus), Neptune (Poseidon) and Pluto (Hades) divided the universe between them.
The chief god of the sky was Jupiter, the underworld was owned by Pluto, and the seas were owned by Neptune. Neptune is invisible to the naked eye, and Neptune's blue color is largely a result of the absorption of red light by methane in the atmosphere.
